At an event that attracts over 35,000 people, communication is critical for the team that manages all safety and emergencies. With an extensive radio communications network in place for the event, quick and mission critical communication is readily available to event officials. However, there is no guarantee the right people will hear when it matters.

Our solution

Through our volunteer involvement and at no cost to Surf Life Saving Australia, we purpose-built a solution for the Aussies 2019 to ensure effective crisis and emergency communications were possible.

Our ‘EventOps’ app was utilised by the Safety and Emergency team to manage incidents that occurred throughout the duration of the event. When an incident is opened, the entire team is sent an SMS alert advising what is happening and the location. This complimented any radio communications occurring and ensured the relevant people were notified. The team was able to collaborate on each incident through its responsive web interface, as well as, send broadcast messages to the entire team.

Bringing everything happening across the event complex together in one place was the live map dashboard. The solution enabled the team to quickly communicate, resolve incidents and provide greater situational visibility.
